I was thinking.. and thinking.. about how I'm thinking about my possessions.
Fundamentally, they are good for me, they are right for me.
I kept them for good reasons, and those reasons remain valid.
So, none of remotely negative expressions about them sit well with me, they just don't resonate with how I think.
Why not have an even better, less negative expression, with emphasis on the good, starting with the good ?
How about this - "Abundant, Insufficiently Organized Possessions" ( AIOP ) ?
Because, this is how I think about my possessions - simply abundance, with some slight elements of insufficient organization.
Let's consider, for example, surplus chairs that are sitting against a wall somewhere.
They are a resource - nothing more, nothing less.
I know how I'm going to use them.
Abundance!
Abundance and Organization.
Zero reason to be unhappy about having them, or wanting to get rid of them.
I don't know if this particular formulation will stick, even with me privately.
But it's an exercise in the right direction, I think.
How we think about our possessions determines our relationship with them.
Certainly not "hoarding".
Not even "dysfunction".
Let's think about it.
