Method/Guideline for dealing with Awkward Items - which I've been referring to as
* AIM - Awkward Item Management
* DeA - DeAwkwardization
* AIM to Tame Unruly Items ( a mnemonic, a slogan, for the same )
Basically, for items which are awkward and difficult to deal with in some way -
Identify them, what is awkward about them, and apply appropriate methods to neutralize that, making them easy to deal with.
* Elongated items ( rods, dowels, quarter-rounds, boards ) - to be hanged / stowed accordingly so that they're not in the way
* Cord-like items - Electrical Cords, Booster Cables, etc. - to be wound up / spooled and stowed
* Heavy, bulky items - to be repositioned, with suitable supports / handles / wheels ; consider subdividing if applicable
* Liquid / powdery items in large quantity - to be allocated to suitable containers - consider also subdivididing into multiple smaller containers that are easier to handle, if need be
* Messy, amorphous items prone to spilling / production of dust ( e.g. bag of cement ) - to be given a proper rigid supporting container / shell, suitable for carrying, storage and containment
* etc.
So, next time one encounters an awkward item - entertain this thought in the background -
What is causing the friction here, what is the awkwardness ?
What is discouraging me from dealing with this ?
Is it bulky, messy, heavy, loose, oversize, all of the above ?
How to contain that and to get it out of the way, and properly stowed without blocking access, usage or organizing progress ?
I will continue sharing or updating ideas as they get refined.
Examples of dealing with Awkward Items -
* Large, heavy bag of ice melter salt ( and with the bag torn and spilling ) - unloaded into 6 smaller containers ( dishwarer pacs tubs )
* Loose Dowels ( standing in a corner, falling, occupying more space than needed ) - bundled and hanged on the wall / ceiling horizontally
