Cure Worse Than The "Disease": How "Experts" On "Hoarding" And Concerned Family Members Made The Problem Worse

The "experts" on "hoarding" and all the proponents of discarding has been so fixated on eliminating the possessions, that it appears they made the problem so much worse by their sheer efforts.

Before:

* Dysfunction in Possessions

Now:

* Dysfunction in Possessions ( because in most cases, people will still not buy into the coercion entirely )

* "Mental Illness" framing ( which can't be right by the sheer vagueness of it, as I've been pointing out )

* Disempowerment / Loss of Agency ( as both persons concerned and family members are told that the person is not entirely competent in the matter of possessions )

* WAYTA Blockage - ( as the Frustrated Family Members picked up the "mental illness" framing and ran with it )

* Misguided ( Though Well Intentioned ) Practitioners applying flawed models, diagnostics and solutions

* CBT ( Coercive Brainwashing Technique, as I relabelled it )

* Interventions ( family members ganging up on a person )

* Cognitive Dissonance / Introjection Attack ( internal conflict - if the person accepts any of it, and they may well end up internalizing some of it by the sheer repetition and pervasiveness - this being at odds with one's intuition and intentions )

* Attention / Memory / Cognitive Resource drain ( due to all of this noise and contradictions )

So, the mainstream approach still hasn't convinced anyone differently - and well it shouldn't, it's based on false premises and faulty problem solving approach - but it introduced a whole lot of noise and interference.

Better to leave the people concerned in peace, and help them organize - that's easier on everyone and likely more effective by far.

Let's try the other direction.
