When All You Have Is A Hammer, Every Problem Starts To Look Like A Nail - this is an extremely fitting metaphor for existing "Hoarding" theories.
All of these experts, practitioners, frustrated family members - ultimately offer only one solution, one button - discard harder.
And they are pushing it as hard as they can, while ignoring alternatives and inconvenient questions.
Like, for example - are possessions really the main problem, the source of problems, or a problem period ?
Well, here I am, throwing in a whole lot of other buttons, and unlike what experts offer, those appear to explain things and to work.
* Systems approach - situation profile, flows, processes, etc.
* Asking The Questions - the common-sense ones
* Limitations of psychology-based explanatory models - not everything is about feelings, you know
Why did they not think of all that ?
Tunnel vision, I guess, among other things.
They think everything revolves around their domain, while their domain ( psychology ) may simply be not applicable, or applicable in a limited way, or in a completely different way than they think.
